Gümüslük is a quiet village set amidst tangerine groves and foliage with its shoreline decked with seafood restaurants. Thanks to strictly enforced building prohibitions, the sea front has kept its original appearance and photogenic fishing village charm. Gümüslük roughly means a form of "silver", getting its name due to the silvery light emitted by the sea's phosphorescence at night

The history of the town is at least as old as that of Bodrum. Gümüslük is the site of a Lelege town founded 5,000 years ago, then called Myndos. It has been the scene of some momentous events in history. When Anthony and Cleopatra set sail for Rome, they made a stop here. Brutus and his fellow conspirators hatched their plan to murder Julius Caesar here with Brutus returning to hide after the assassination. |
